Enchantment
Ullapool, Lochbroom
This was another opportune moment for me. I had some decent weather on the way up to Ullapool, but a pretty heavy storm hit just before I arrived bringing heavy winds and driving rain. After getting something to eat, I had a feeling that the storm would pass and there might just be a chance of a good photograph. So I headed out, still in pretty horrendous weather conditions. I’ll admit, it was so bad I had considered turning back on a couple of occasions, but having missed near perfect weather before, I took a chance and pressed on. The storm finally cleared above my head, but left cloud between me and the setting sun, which produced some of the most magical colour and light in the clouds. The infamous highland midge was out in force, and I had forgotten insect repellant, which reduced me to taking a couple of shots, then frantically walking in circles before returning to the camera for a couple more. After 4 or 5 shots it was all I could stand and I had to get back into the car still covered in a few thousand of the blighters! A drive back with the windows down sorted most of them out, though I’m sure there are still a few hiding in my car!
