Slate Sunset

Easdale Island, Firth of Lorne

Easdale is an island of slate. Really beautiful slate, studded with cubes of iron pyrite. Standing on the edge of this old quarry, the subdued sunset echoed the very material the island is made of. This quarry in particular has always looked a bit like a swimming pool to me, and the edges forming a V shape with the foreground stairs, laid in slate, formed a structure that opens up towards the back of the quarry, the sky, and views to Mull.
